Wildlife Management Strategies
Please write a paper that:
1) Describes the natural capital that the continent of Africa has to offer.
2) Describes the natural capital degradation and conflict with wildlife that is occuring due to human activities.
3) Please describe the solutions/philosophies of wildlife management that the following countries have come up with for allowing Homo sapiens and wildlife to coexist:
4) Analyze each country's philosophy and describe the trade-offs (positives and negatives) that is inherent in each solution. These are your opinions. This is where your brain begins to shine like bright sunlight reflecting from freshly fallen snow at 9 A.M. in the cloudless morning the day after a wicked blizzard. No one around you is wearing sunglasses and therefore must squint when faced with your brilliance.
5) Decide which of the previous philosophies you would endorse if you were a decision maker in an affected African country. Why would you endorse this plan?
Not Present (0%) Attempted (60%) Average (75%) Above Average (85%) Exemplary (100%) Africa? Where's that? I forgot to write paragraph 1. Well actually I did, but a computer virus destroyed it. Africa is mentioned but they didn't really get that animals and ecosystems are Africa's greatest natural capital. Describes the natural capital of Africa in an almost adequate way. Describes the natural capital of Africa in a way that gets your attention. Clearly d escribes the natural capital (wealth of ecosystems with exotic large mammals) in a way that makes you feel as though there is a great deal to lose if the problem isn't solved. As the writer of this paper I chose to avoid conflict until I see my therapist one more time. Mentions that there is at least ONE conflict that people are having with Africa's natural capital. Describes 2 conflicts that people are having with Africa's natural capital. Describes 3 conflicts that people are having with Africa's natural capital. Clearly describes 4 or more conflicts that people are having with Africa's natural capital. As the writer of this paper, I am Kenyan aphobic and cannot deal with it. My therapist has suggested that I take a trip there, but I'm not "packed" yet. Mentions only one Kenyan philosophy but only briefly without many details. Mentions only one of the Kenyan philosophies but does a nice job with that one. Mentions both of the Kenyan philosophies but not completely clear about the details. Clearly describes Kenya's approach to wildlife management that includes putting animals in electricaly fenced parks & making wildlife pay by either having tourism to see them. They also say ranching wildlife is a Kenyan possibility in which animals are grown for meat to sell. As the writer of this paper I am afraid of "Z" words because they make me feel like my life is almost over. I avoid them at all cost and will never see the movie _oro! Zimbabwe's philosophy is mentioned but not elaborated on. Zimbabwe's philosophy is described but not very clearly and seems to be missing something. Zimbabwe's philosophy is described adequately to be understood. Clearly describes Zimbabwe's approach to wildlife management that includes allowing big game hunting to pay for maintaining the ecosystem with water holes and fire suppression. Letting native people control animal populations could also be described here but is not required. As the writer of this paper I cannot deal with how low on the globe S Africa is and refuse to think about something so low down. I have bottom aphobia. S Africa's philosophy is mentioned but not elaborated on. S Africa's philosophy is described but not very clearly and seems to be missing something. S. Africa's philosophy is described adequately to be understood. Clearly describes S. Africa's philosophy of total ecosystem management that includes studying it, understanding it, and managing every detail of it including culling elephants to keep their numbers at the "correct" level. As the writer of this paper I avoid +'s and -'s because it reminds me of electricity. As a child I licked an electrical outlet. Need I say more? There are 3 or less statements concerning +'s and -'s There are 4 statements concerning +'s and -'s There are 5 statements concerning +'s and -'s At least on positive and one negative is given for each of the 3 countries' philosophies. There are 6 statements concerning +'s and -'s. As the writer of this paper the thought of being a wildlife manager in Africa made me break out in hives...no I think the spots are shingles!!! Oh no, I may have herpes! Writer said they have an opinion but it wasn't really very clear and was somewhat wishy washy and not supported. They sort of just pick one without saying why. Writer states their opinion and gives a reason. Uh huh. Writer states their opinion as to which philosophy they would endorse and support it with a reason or two. Okay. Writer clearly states their opinion as to which philosophy they would endorse and clearly support the reasons for doing so. They sound like they are "into this" and are convincing.
