Students will know at each link in a food web some energy is stored in newly made structures but much energy is dissipated into the environment as heat. This dissipation may be represented in an energy pyramid.

1) Check homework while taking down organism names and identifying trophic levels from "Jungles" Planet Earth Video
2) Use organisms from the Chaparral biome near Corona to calculate biomass of trophic levels (see spreadsheet)
3) Discussion of food chains, food webs, & energy pyramids.
4) Compare & contrast a food chain and food web.
5) Homework: Ch18-4 outline & vocab & cues; take pretest online
